Kommunikation zwischen Rockmusikern und Publikum

Results of empirical studies on the frequently postulated communication between rock musicians and their audience are used for a critical examination of this claim. Communication via rock music, the authors maintain, is an essentially unilateral process, carrying only a limited number of more or less banal meanings from the stage to the auditorium. Processes of mutual transfromation of self consciousness between performers and spectators are most improbable. The producer-consumer relation is so explicitly shaped by business exigences, that these are becoming fundamental to both the concertgoer's own experiences and expectations, and the legends about communication between the parties concerned.
